Nestled in the heart of District of Tofino, set against a gorgeous backdrop of coastal forest, is the newest housing development called Creekside. This complex is situated approximately 2.5 km south of the village centre, and all the shopping essentials, and close to Chesterman Beach and its vast recreation area.
Tofino Housing Corporation and Catalyst Community Developments Society have been working to develop two apartment buildings on two separate legal parcels originating from District Lot 114. The North Building has 35 units and the South Building has 37 units for a total of 72 units of affordable rental housing. The target audience for these homes is families, seniors, persons with a disability and singles with household incomes that meet the targets of the BC Housing Community Housing Fund (CHF) program. The building common spaces, both indoor and outdoor, as well as the new road to be built to access and service the buildings also follows universal design principles such that residents and visitors with various levels of mobility will be able to use the spaces. The new road includes a paved, separated, multi-modal path on the south side to provide a safe space for walking, biking as well as the use of strollers, rolling walkers and wheelchairs. A mix of studio, 1-bedroom, 2-bedroom and 3-bedroom units to be rented to families, seniors and others at a range of different rents. This project is a partnership between Catalyst, BC Housing and the Tofino Housing Corporation.
