Robert Brown

"I'm very excited to be involved with an organization that is committed to creating a new model to deliver affordable housing and workspaces while ensuring that real estate assets stay in community ownership in perpetuity. "

Robert Brown, President of Catalyst, brings over 35 years of diverse real estate and life experience including commercial real estate, market housing development, innovative green building projects, non-profit development work, and hands on work with community-based organizations.

He trained in Scotland as a Chartered Surveyor, starting in 1979.  After participating in many aspects of real estate in the UK he came to Vancouver in 1988. After eight years in commercial real estate brokerage Robert created Chesterman Properties (link to Chesterman site) with the goal of undertaking market real estate developments that are thoughtful, beautiful and inspiring. Also, between 2001 and 2008 Robert (with a partner) operated reSource Rethinking Building, a green building consulting firm that assisted many large developments (and developers) to achieve significant improvements in building performance with a reduced impact on our environment.

Since 2008, Robert has also brought his real estate expertise to work with a variety of not for profit organisations seeking to optimize their real estate assets to further their mission and create significant community benefit. It was this work that spawned the idea for Catalyst.

Robert is committed to the community in which he lives and is (and has been) involved in numerous volunteer projects, including: Compassionate Eye Foundation (link); Canadian Business for Social Responsibility (CBSR); and Tradeworks Training Society.
