Robert Brown

I'm very excited to be involved with an organization that is committed to creating a new model to deliver affordable housing and community spaces, while ensuring that real estate assets stay in community ownership in perpetuity.

Robert brings 39 years of real estate, business and non-profit experience to Catalyst.

Robert brings diverse experience to Catalyst. Including work in commercial real estate, market housing development, innovative green building projects, resort development, non-profit development work, and hands-on work with community-based organizations.

He trained in Scotland as a Chartered Surveyor.  After working in many aspects of UK real estate, he came to Vancouver in 1988. After eight years working in a commercial real estate brokerage, Robert created Chesterman Properties, with the goal of undertaking thoughtful, beautiful and inspiring market real estate. Between 2001 and 2008, Robert was also a partner in reSource Rethinking Building, a green building consulting firm that has assisted many large developments and developers to achieve significant improvements in building performance, with a reduced impact on our environment.

Since 2008, Robert has also brought his real estate expertise to work with a variety of not-for-profit organizations seeking to optimize their real estate assets to further their mission and create significant community benefit. It was this work that spawned the idea for Catalyst.

Robert is committed to the community in which he lives and is (and has been) involved in numerous volunteer projects, including: Compassionate Eye FoundationCanadian Business for Social Responsibility (CBSR); and Tradeworks Training Society.
