Our mission

Since 2013, Catalyst has partnered with community organizations, non-profits and municipal governments to create projects that deliver on our mission – to unlock the value of community assets to create vibrant, affordable, and inspiring place for people to live and work in.

Who our housing is for

Catalyst adopts a mixed-income model, with a focus on building new rental homes that are affordable to individuals and families earning total household incomes of between $20,000 and $100,000 a year. Rents vary based on the size of the homes we build. Our goal is to offer rents at our projects that are initially in the range of 10-40% below market, and to work with our partners to manage - and even reduce - rents over time.

How We Collaborate

Catalyst brings together decades of real estate development experience with shared non-profit values. We apply traditional real estate expertise, efficiency and cost management to every project we work on. Our goal is to help our non-profit partners achieve long-term financial sustainability, while also creating opportunities for Catalyst to build more affordable housing in BC.

Our Founding Supporter

Vancity has been a supporter of Catalyst Community Developments Society since its inception.  Beginning with organizational development support, strategic advice on business planning and board development, and start-up grants, Vancity’s involvement now includes support to maximise impact for the developments they invest in by building networking and partnerships with mission-aligned organizations, and providing seed funding, pre-development loans, and other social finance solutions.  Catalyst is also a Vancity business member – they have access to all the financial services for their core operations as well as financing for construction, take-out, and retail mortgages for their projects. 

We’re passionate about building affordable housing and community spaces and take our responsibilities to our partners, investors, and communities very seriously. Our business-like approach to development manages costs and risks to maximize affordability for our tenants, while delivering long-term financial sustainability to our non-profit partners.
